In short: Lekha is a free self-help tool that gives you general legal information and fill-in-the-blank document templates. It is not a law firm, does not give you legal advice, and using it does not create an advocate-client relationship. For anything important, have a qualified advocate review your document before you rely on it.
Lekha provides (a) general legal information and educational content, (b) standardised legal-document templates you complete yourself, and (c) an informational directory of advocates and informational self-check tools. Lekha is not a law firm or a substitute for a lawyer, and no one at Lekha is acting as your advocate. Nothing on Lekha is legal advice tailored to your specific situation. We do not interpret your facts, tell you which document you legally “need,” or opine on whether your document or position is legally valid.
Your use of Lekha does not create an advocate-client, attorney-client, or any fiduciary relationship between you and Lekha or any person associated with it. Communications through Lekha are not privileged. If you need advice on your specific matter, consult an advocate enrolled with a State Bar Council.
Our templates are general and may not fit your specific circumstances, and the law changes over time. A document you download is a draft. It has no legal effect until it is properly executed — which, depending on the document, may require correct stamping (state Stamp Acts), registration(Registration Act, 1908), attestation/witnessing (e.g. two witnesses for a will under the Indian Succession Act, 1925), or notarisation. Lekha does not stamp, register, notarise, witness, e-sign, or file anything for you; where we compute a figure (e.g. stamp duty) it is an estimate to be confirmed with the relevant authority. You are responsible for the accuracy of what you enter and for executing the document correctly.
Documents are labelled Beta unless and until a named advocate has reviewed them, in which case the record shows that advocate’s name and review date. Lekha never claims a document is “certified,” “court-valid,” or “legally guaranteed.” An editorial “last checked against current law” date reflects a content-maintenance check by our team, not an advocate’s review of your document.
Any checklist or “audit” feature is informational only. It highlights general points to consider; it does not give a verdict, does not tell you your document is or is not valid, and is not a legal opinion. Confirm anything important with a qualified advocate.
The directory lists advocates using only neutral, factual details and is ordered neutrally (alphabetically). It is informational and is not an endorsement, ranking, rating, review, or recommendation of any advocate, and Lekha takes no referral fee or commission. A listing is not a guarantee of quality or outcome. Verify an advocate’s enrolment independently with the relevant State Bar Council or the Bar Council of India before engaging anyone.
We handle personal data in line with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. You can review what we collect, manage consent, and delete your data from the Privacy Centre.
Lekha is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranty of any kind — including as to accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose, or that any document will achieve a legal result. You use Lekha at your own discretion and risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lekha and its operators are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service, the templates, or any document you create with it. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at the operator’s principal place of business have jurisdiction, subject to applicable law.
